The Cirillo 1850 Semillon is harvested entirely from a single vineyard, owned by the Cirillo family, in the Light Pass region in the Barossa Valley. This vineyard is believed to be the oldest Semillon (Madeira) in the world, planted in 1848. It is one of the few remaining Madeira vineyards left in Australia. The fruit is handpicked early in the season, normally in mid‐late January, ensuring natural acidity. Whole bunches are basket pressed, then the juice is then tank fermented, without oak. Cellared in bottle for 5 years before released.
It is pale green/yellow, almost clear in colour. The aromas are lifted lemongrass and lime with some clean mineral characters. Fruit is dominant on the palate with a lean, light structure and driven acid finish. This Semillon is the ideal balance of fruit and dryness. Truly an exciting Semillon that will reward early drinking or cellaring for years to come.
